Railroad transportation has grown in Brazil in recent years and, because of this, it is necessary to increase railroad capacity (…)
This is an excerpt from Mr. Lucas de Barros Pimenta M.Sc. Thesis Abstract. The thesis was defended last Tuesday evening so that March, 22nd, 2018 will be forever an important milestone in Mr. Pimenta’s live and for sure the mind of all the ones who attended to his thesis defense, including his expecting wife.
Mr. Pimenta delivered his less-than-one-hour presentation, got the feedbacks and advises to perform minor changes in his written work, answered a couple of questions posed by the jury and eventually got the result he had chased for years.
The thesis title was “Planejamento das Atividades e da Utilização dos Recursos na Operação de Vagões em Terminais Ferroviários” (free translation: Rail cars operations and resource utilization planning in railroad terminals)
Having produced a comprehensive thesis, Mr. Pimenta also delivered an outstanding presentation, showing strong knowledge of the scientific research subject as well as demonstrating his impressive presentation skills. He delivered a clear and effective lecture, bringing about the appraisal of the entire examination board.
Mr. Pimenta holds a position in a huge railroad terminal operations planning team, so I wish he will have the chance to carry out his solution in the industry, producing the improvements that the railroads currently need. I am convinced of the high value of his research to the railroad yard operations and I have no doubts about his ability to transform his applied mathematics research into a real-world application.
Once again I would like to register my gratitude to Prof. Rodrigo de Alvarenga Rosa for the invitation to take part in the examination board and I give my congratulations to Mr. Pimenta for his achievement.
It was an honor to take part in this session, especially because railroad planning is my preferred research topic.
