On March, 2009 I have defended my Thesis and became a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering.
Today, more than ten years later, I am still happy with that!
It was a tough decision to move to Rio de Janeiro and live there for over three years and then move to Brussels and live there for one more year, totaling over four years far from my family which I left in Vitoria. It was hard to work and study at the same time for four years in a row as well but today I look behind and I can say that, for sure, this has been one of the greatest accomplishments in my life.
From a practical point of view, getting the doctoral diploma qualified me to voluntarily work as …
- a researcher, publishing paper and, sometimes, been awarded like in The ANPET 2015 scientific production award.
- a member of MSc degree examination committees as well as cosupervising thesis like Master Degree work by Jessica Prates on locomotive engine fault prediction.
- a peer-reviewer of scientific publications manuscripts like, for example, The British Journal of Mathematics and Computer Science, as reported in this article.
… and the icing on the cake was, for sure, to be assigned as an Artificial Intelligence Specialist at Vale´s AI Center. Motivating challenges, fantastic colleagues and the honour to work for the technology department of Vale, which has been ranked by BCG, a couple of days ago, as one of the 20 most innovative companies for 2019.
At this celebration moment, I would like to express my gratitude to my doctoral supervisors for helping and supporting me in this important phase in my life.
To close this post, I would like to express my great love and acknowledgement to my wife and my two sons, from whom I appreciate all the patience and support during my Ph.D. studies.
